Wolf, Abrams win at Rushville CNHI
RUSHVILLE —
Patrick Wolf and Garrett Abrams were victorious at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville Saturday night. The event that was sponsored by Hubler Chevrolet was the first of the season at Rushville and featured mini sprints and the Dutch Mill Buffet UMRA TQ Midgets. In the mini sprints, 10-lap heats went to Trent Wilson and Garrett Abrams. Abrams was able to overcome a crash in the first heat race to dominate the second heat and the 25-lap feature. The feature win was the start of a big weekend for Abrams as to go along with his win on Saturday night he graduated from high school on Sunday afternoon. In the Dutch Mill Buffet UMRA TQ Midgets, quick time was Ron Combs at 13.423 seconds. The trophy dash went to Terry Goff with 10-lap heats going to Ron Combs, Trent Henderson and Doug Roland. In the 25-lap feature, Patrick Wolf got the jump on the start but had to hold off a pack, that for most of the race, included Oogie Goff, Jason Goff, Ron Combs and Terry Goff. Despite repeated challenges from Oogie, Patrick Wolf was able to hold on for his fourth career UMRA feature win, all of them coming at Rushville. Oogie Goff was second. Terry Goff was third. Ron Combs was fourth and Trent Henderson rounded out the top five. The $50 from the “Tony Stewart Rookie Challenge” went to Jon Steed who finished 10th. The five gallons of fuel from the G and G Oil “Hard Charger of the Race” went to Michael Koontz who came from 17th to seventh in the feature. During the intermission before the feature event the drivers brought their helmets out the grandstands to take a collection for Riley Children’s Hospital and were able to raise $530. The next race for the 50th anniversary season of the Dutch Mill Buffet UMRA TQ Midgets is Saturday at the Anderson Speedway.
